The Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Marshall review new construction plans for all commercial buildings and inspect new buildings prior to occupancy in conjunction with the Planning and Codes Department. New businesses are inspected after the City of Tullahoma Recorder's Office issues a business license.
Businesses that are licensed to sell beer or wine are re-inspected annually. In addition, other existing businesses are routinely inspected, often by request of the business owner or a customer. The Tullahoma Fire Department endeavors to educate, advise, and recommend actions that will maintain the minimum life and fire safety elements as required by the Tullahoma Municipal Code.
Codes Adopted
For new construction the 2015 International Building Code, the 2015 International Fire Code, 2017 International Electrical Code and the 2003 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, along with the codes/standards or other materials they reference, have been specifically adopted under the Tullahoma Municipal Code. For existing buildings the 2015 International Existing Buildings Code and the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code, along with the codes/standards or other materials they reference, are adopted under the Tullahoma Municipal Code.
